A Christmas Carol

Audition Notice

Thursday 3rd September - 7.30pm

Lewes Little Theatre Foyer

Marley was dead: to begin with.…. as dead as a doornail.

So begins the story of Ebenezer Scrooge as he sits in his office; a bitter and lonely man who lost his friend and business partner seven years ago. He is a lonely man. He has turned to the pursuit of money and away from the fellowship of others. He is about to be shown the error of his ways and the dreadful fate that will be his if he continues to value money above all else…, with the spirits of Marley and The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come all making Ebenezer see things differently and taking him on an epic journey from ‘covertous old sinner’ to the redeemed soul we see at the end. We go on the journey and meet the characters who show him the world outside his bubble of Business and bitter meaness.

Dickens highlights the contrasts between wealth and poverty, joy and despair, that defined mid-nineteenth-century London. I would like to put some emphasis on this in the production and so the Chorus will be representing the people who are caught up in the inequalities and harsh justices of Victorian life . Despite the darkness of the story A Christmas Carol brings us a joyful and benevolent ending offering hope for the future and an opportunity to wish each other a Merry Christmas and sing some Christmas carols.

God bless us every one!
